Celebration for Dovehouse Court’s official opening

Girton Town Charity’s new almshouses and office were formally opened on Saturday 29th April by Dr Robin Hiley, Trustee and former Chair. The event was attended by 30 invited guests who had been involved in the project, followed by an open session for Village residents to come along and see the new homes for themselves.

GTC celebrates handover of Dovehouse Court

GTC is marking the completion of a £5 million building project to create 15 new energy-efficient almshouses for local residents. Following an 18-month building programme, Girton Town Charity took ownership of Dovehouse Court, where all the homes have been built to stringent Passivhaus standards to achieve maximum energy efficiency. The development also includes a new office for the Charity.

Dovehouse Court is now in final stages of completion and Trustees have recently visited to view progress ahead of handover which will take place at the end of February.

Girton Town Charity has continued to steer a very busy programme with a major new almshouse project underway at Dovehouse Court, the completion of Suffolk Terrace. This summary is extracted from the report prepared for the Parish Council’s Annual Meeting in May 2022.

Girton Town Charity (GTC) exists to enable Girton residents to lead as full a life as possible in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

One of the main ways we can offer help is in the form of Personal Grants so that you can pay for things to enable you to do this – whether it's providing a disabled shower, helping fund some training for a career change in later life or buying equipment for a member of your family with additional needs.

As well as helping residents in specific circumstances – each one assessed on need and eligibility – we also offer a range of Schemes and Grants.
