GTC strengthens team with new Trustee appointment
18 Aug 2026
Girton Town Charity, which is run by a board of Trustees with a varied range of business skills and experience, has recently appointed a new member of the team.
Andrew Clare moved to Girton in 2020 where he lives with his wife Fiona and ‘very excitable’ Border Collie Pippin. He is a Professor of Finance at a large business school in London, where he specialises in asset management and is currently also a Trustee of the BT Pension Scheme, one of the largest in the UK. In his spare time he writes comedy thrillers.
Andrew says: “I had heard about the great work GTC does from my neighbour and was thrilled to be invited to become a Trustee. I hope that my expertise will be useful to the GTC board as it manages its vital endowment.”
Varied backgrounds
Rachel Allchorne became a Trustee in 2024 after working for GTC firstly as an Administrator and then becoming Office Manager both giving her first-hand involvement in ensuring the Charity fulfils its legal and statutory requirements in compliance, risk management and health and safety.
Patsy Smith brings an invaluable bank of knowledge about the history of the Village and its residents, having lived in Girton all her life. She also worked in the Education Department at Cambridgeshire County Council for 39 years and at Abbeyfield for several years, both providing experience that is a useful asset to the Charity.
Almshouse projects
Qualified as a professional engineer, Andrew Muston has been able to contribute his skills to almshouse building projects and ongoing maintenance of the housing portfolio. He has also used his business experience to help on governance and operational risk assessments.
Gill Cockley has lived in Girton since 1985 and raised her three sons in the Village. Her background as Matron of a hospital gives her first-hand experience of HR and employment law, which puts her in a good position to offer this expertise to GTC.
Sharing skills
Having lived in Girton for 20 years, Colin Carr joined GTC in 2019, bringing skills from his background in Healthcare Science and Management, and more recently in design and managing construction of new laboratory facilities. His 45 years in healthcare has given him in-depth experience in managing finances and workforce, as well as health and safety and education.
With a background in finance in London and overseas, Marc Bermann has enjoyed helping the Charity in various capacities since 2017.
After retiring from a 40-year career in the law, Lynn Henderson sought a voluntary role where she could put her legal skills to good use whilst at the same time putting something back into the community where she enjoys living.
Chair of Trustees Ann Bonnett says: “I am delighted to welcome Andrew to our team and look forward to his valuable contribution to our portfolio of activities. It’s important to remember that all GTC Trustees are volunteers, giving their time and expertise for the good of the Village. I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their ongoing help and support as we tackle a full and exciting agenda in the years ahead.”
