Girton Town Charity

Case Study: Be a Buddy Scheme

GTC has funded a Be A Buddy Scheme at Girton Glebe, the first primary school in Cambridgeshire to give its pupils professional training in counselling.

The Be A Buddy Scheme, delivered by Relate Cambridge, means that children as young as nine are being taught conflict resolution and listening skills in order to provide personal and psychological support to younger four and five year olds, who will be starting school in September.

The overall aims of the Scheme are to support pre-school children in the move to primary school and to encourage a sense of friendship and caring for others within the school.

Be A Buddy comprises six one-hour sessions and includes practising communication skills, active listening and how to befriend others.
